The fishing has been so good here at Peregrine Lodge lately that some might have been tempted to put it down to luck. Yet, as we say goodbye to June and to our third trip of the season, big fish are still being caught at an incredible pace. Clearly, this is not a fluke. Mike Orlowski, one of our guides, says that this season has started off better than any of the other 5 years he has been with us. “This season, boats are having 4 or 5 double-headers a DAY. In the past, you might only get a few each year” explains Mikey. And not only are the fish being caught in huge numbers, but they are also straining our scale.

Adam Kuettel of Minnesota can certainly attest to the size of the fish being caught. At around 8:30 on Friday morning, Adam hooked into a massive spring off Parker Point. With the help of his brother Jason and his guide Lee McCabe, Adam hauled the fish to his boat. After pausing to take photos and measurements, Adam revived and released his 40 pound fish, allowing it to carry on its migration through our waters.

Another beautiful fish was caught this trip by Richard Slemp, along with his guide Brandon Costman. The fish, which weighed-in at 38 pounds, was caught late in the day on Friday off Cape Naden. But Richard wasn’t done there – in addition to a bunch of other salmon, he’ll also be going home with a humongous halibut! Let’s hope Richard has a big freezer.

And, as if things weren’t going smoothly enough, the weather has continued to spoil us. Though fog has crept into Naden Harbour the past couple mornings, it has burned off by the afternoon, leaving us with calm seas and sunny skies. If it weren’t for all the massive fish we are catching, our guests could easily forget that they are in rugged northern BC!

No, this is no fluke. 2013 is well on its way to being a year to remember. As the guests of our third trip have proven, there are more than enough big-fish stories to go around. Come up to Peregrine Lodge and let us write yours!
