This trip was the third annual Mercury Big Fish Challenge, hosted by Mark Pendlington of Sports Fishing B.C.and Peregrine Lodge. The Mercury Big Fish Challenge, the first two days of this trip were catch and release of Chinook , the first day saw 5 Chinook released and the second and last day of the derby saw 13 Chinook released and the winner for the total pounds released was Peter Fisher. The next two days saw a total of 34 Chinook retained. Each day saw an increase of fish at Green Point in about 130ft of water. The Chinook were deep, mixed in with coho. Snake Rock had some fish on the first day but the effort went west to the more consistent Green Point. A pair of humpback whales continue to feed with the fishing fleet. Orca’s also gave us a great show with breaches and feeding around the boats. The largest halibut for this trip was 27lbs caught by Joe Morreau and the largest Chinook was 32lbs released by Hunter Moen, which by the way was the first time salmon fishing for Hunter, great to see him release that nice tyee. Our thanks go out to all our derby participants and our sponsors Mercury, Maxima and also to Mark Pendlington , Peregrine Lodge loves to host this event and hopes to continue with this event next year.

The sea’s were calm for this trip, with some very large coho showing up. The lodge record a 22lb. coho that stood for 15 years was broken when Chris Weber landed a 24lb coho, what a great fish. Lots of coho in the 14lb to 16lb size are showing up.
Due to a wind change Chinook were tough to find, those that were caught were in the mid to high 20lb range offering some great sport.
