FISHING REPORT / BLOG

This feeding frenzy has been continuing with a veracious speed on this trip with only a few lulls for much needed rest between the 20+ catch and release per boat fishing. Rumor has it that one boat played 40 fish by noon. The fishing is nothing short of spectacular up here.
The weather has been flat calm to the point where glassy smooth waters blend into the horizon of the sky. One could almost get lost in the gorgeous dream of the surroundings; however, that tug of excitement on the line is so frequent that the rush of the catch reminds you that this is in fact just one of the best places on earth to fish! David and Johnny can testify that pulling up a 39 lb and a 40 lb Tyee really do add to the legend that is the north end of Haida Gwaii. This fish was hooked in a patch of quite dark water on the edge of Kelp in Yachts Bay. Just out of reach of a sea lion a couple of Tyees were hiding waiting for David to give him the most memorable fish of a lifetime with a 15 minute game of back and forth until the lustrous sheen of the fish broke the surface. I’ve never seen someone so happy, as David teased the fish into the boat for Johnny to scoop up. You could sense the weight of this mighty salmon by the bend in the rod. Loud high five’s were heard after netting his prize winning fish, and a surge of exhilaration hit the water, everyone knew this was going to be the winner.
The lodge was full of smiles each night as they regaled in their stories of the day. But one thing is for sure it was not fishermen’s tales.
If you haven’t ever experienced the fishing that our local fishing grounds provide I can assure you there is nothing quite like it! I am in awe at the life that swims up to this first landfall as pacific sea creatures journey from north to south along our coast line. I am sure you will be too.

"Peregrine Lodge Haida Gwaii, where the 'reel' big fish are!"
Posted June 25, 2015 by Thomas Cowan
The legendary fishing of Peregrine lodge continued this week with a 38 pounder on the top of the catch list! Dave fought the determined hard fight to become a member of the Tyee club and we would like to think he did it with "reel” style. This behemoth sized Chinnok was found out at our local famous Parker Point guided to just the right spot by our full time guide Chris. Having the best gear, guide, and fishing grounds in the world all came together for this catch.
Dave wasn’t the only one getting into the tyee club though! Every day the Chinook are getting bigger and we all can’t wait to see what comes in at the weigh in this week! We are still having catch and releases in the 20+ fish per boat each day with 20+ stories per boat.
Keep those rods high and lines tight!

We’re having one of the best June opening seasons in history at the moment with over 20+ catch and releases per day per boat, as well as multiple Tyee’s caught in the last 4 days. The largest landing of this trip took well over thirty minutes of tense arm aching battling to land the legend!
The many other big 28 pound plus catches of the week came from patient slow trolling near the shore line. The dedication of our expert guides knowing exactly where to maximize the fishy good luck coupled with the intuition of the guests is proving a wining combination to find the big ones.
You can tell by the smiles on everyone’s faces that a trip like this only comes once in a life time. The Tyee, Halibut, and Coho that everyone is taking home with them will fill their freezers for months to come but the stories will last forever!
This next week is shaping up to be a phenomenal fishing frenzy and it’s getting everyone at the lodge excited to see just how big the legend of Haida Gwaii fishing can really become. This spot in the world has to be seen to be believed and we do have a few spots still available August 19-23 that will be booked up fast.
Looking forward to seeing you all up here this summer

Today we had a 34 pound Tyee as well as having most boats catch and release 20+ pinks. This season is swimming into full strength up here in one of the most amazing settings in the world. There is no where else we'd rather be!
